10 POVs That Will Change Your Life

I'm currently attending a Life Coach Certification Program, and it has been mind-blowing! I've had so many AHA moments since I started, so today I have to share my current AHA moment.

"NLP stands for ‘Neuro Linguistic Programming’ and has been around since 1970’s...NLP as a collection of models, techniques and strategies for modelling excellence, in order to help us better understand how our thought processes and behavior, including how the language we use, influences the way we think and the results we get. Modelling excellence in any field enables us to bring about a positive change in ourselves and others."

The 10 Presuppositions of NLP:

  1. Respect for other's "Map of the World". Everyone is unique and therefore has their own unique view of the world. By allowing others to be who they are, or to see the world as they do, we understand more and more that we are not here to change anyone. We are only here to create space for others.

  2. The "Map of the World" is not the territory. Everyone responds to their own Map of reality, not reality itself. Therefore, we live in a multiverse where everyone's reality exists. This is a great reminder that we all see life differently and the "right" we see, might be somebody else's "wrong"...and vice versa. It's important to stay open and flexible in our surroundings (#7 on the list). Staying open allows us to adapt and grow.

  3. Our core belief is pure love. Nothing brings us more joy and happiness than living by this core belief...whether or not we believe it doesn't matter. When we hurt others, we hurt ourselves...that is law. In this sense, we were created for love and to give love, to connect, to cooperate and support...it's in our DNA because that is how we survived. We are responsible for our behaviors and our impact on others and the world. Our core belief will not tolerate anything less...and if we attempt to go against this core belief, we will suffer. Therefore, we are reminded that we are in charge of our mind which effects the body, health, and behaviors, which in turn creates the world we live in.

  4. There is no such thing as failure, only feedback. If we look at ourselves and others from this light, we will see our perfection and capacity to grow and become. If we remain open, we cannot be limited.

  5. Language is important, speak wisely. Words have power. What we say to ourselves and to others has lasting impact.

  6. We're all responsible for our communication. If we don't receive the results we want from others, it's as result of our own communication. "While your intention may be clear to you, it is the other person’s interpretation and response that reflects your effectiveness. NLP teaches you the skills and flexibility to ensure that the message you send equals the message they receive." (https://anlp.org/knowledge-base/presuppositions-of-nlp

  7. Law of Requisite is the ability to be flexible and adaptive to our environment, situation, experience, etc. The more flexible we are in our behavior, the more control we have over our environment, situation, experience, etc.

  8. "All behavior is designed to either avoid pain or seek pleasure." AHA! Much of what we do makes more sense after knowing this. This sneak peek into humanity helps us to understand behaviors a bit more. It helps us to be more compassionate, understanding, and empathetic. It pulls us closer to our core belief: we are pure love.

  9. Nobody needs fixing. We are all whole, unique, and resourceful. It's only our strategies that need to be adjusted because some strategies no longer work and are poorly designed for our life. AHA! We are perfect and where we need to be. There is no need to judge, condemn, criticize, blame, shame, reject, deny, or hate ourselves. We don't need to be fixed, we only need to adjust our way of doing things and stay open to trying new ways of thinking, believing, behaving, and creating.

  10. Modeling is a way to grow into who we want to become. Who do we look up to? Research them. Talk to them. Learn how they do what they do, then adjust the process to fit our unique life and desires.

Remember: We have the power and ability to create the life we want. Adjustments may need to be made along the way, but we are capable! It's our responsibility to set ourselves free, thereby setting others free in the process.

Sending my Love and Light.
